Nonprofit Projects
Washington Association of Child Advocate Programs (WACAP)
WACAP needs an updated website! Their organization is a resource for a network of child advocacy organizations that work to provide children facing abuse or neglect with a volunteer representative to ensure the child has a voice when going through the court process. The current website needs to be updated to help inform the audience of their work in an appealing way. There is currently no way of showing people how many programs are in the network. They would love for the website to be a hub for people to learn more about child advocacy in the dependency system and for people to easily connect to their local program. The volunteer page could also use an update to help inform volunteers about the expectations and requirements and how they can get involved.
They also offer an AmeriCorps program. They would love for the AmeriCorps page to reflect the amazing work AmeriCorps members do to recruit volunteer child advocates in their local community. A future goal, which may not be attainable this round, is to have a portal for members to log into to complete contracts, and timesheets, receive program info, and anything else related to their service. Currently, many individual links to websites, Google folders, and drives are sent out. A portal would allow members to log in and access the information on their own.
They are also interested in creating a system to help manage their volunteers. They want to be able to receive volunteer information and send it through a workflow that includes background checks and training.
Alliance for Education
The Alliance for Education is the only foundation that supports every school building in Seattle Public Schools, the largest public district in the state and PNW. As an organization that has been around for 30 years, their website has gone through many iterations and has old components of WordPress fields meshed within the new block editor, making it challenging for someone without intense coding experience to edit small things like font color or size. This limitation has prevented them from optimizing their site in ways such as adding call-to-action buttons for visitors to learn more, donate, and get involved. It has stifled event registration and made the new content they are producing really challenging for a website user to access, take in, and support public schools. Previous communications staff have resorted to making a separate website for their largest program, which was developed with even worse accessibility, UX, and information navigation.
Furniture Repair Bank
At their unique non-profit, Furniture Repair Bank, over 1,000 furniture items are brought back to life each year, with each piece undergoing a multistep restoration process. These items are assembled into sets based on the specific needs of the families they serve. Inventory management is key to the efficiency of their operation. Last year, a brilliant team from Seattle GiveCamp helped design a basic inventory management solution using the Airtable platform.
Over the past year, they have been actively developing their non-profit, growing, and utilizing the basic platform that was developed. Through this process, they have learned what works for them, what doesn’t, what additional data they would like to capture, and how they can use it to advance their mission. They now need help fine-tuning the platform and adding additional functionality, such as reporting, data intake, automated responses, production management, dependencies, and more.
